"The Longest Day" Recap!

This Saturday was such a terrific day, and supporters of the Alzheimer’s Association were able to show our support through the event, “The Longest Day.”  My last blog post explained what The Longest Day is, but I want to share some pictures of this weekend’s impactful event.

Wonderful Alzheimer's Association friends, Pam and Teresa!

We met at 6:30 a.m. at the base of the Bump & Grind Trail in Palm Desert.  There were about 30 of us committed to hiking up the trail in support of caregivers who care for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.  I brought purple balloons, Teresa Segovia (who is also a dear friend of mine) of the Alzheimer’s’ Association made some cute posters, Dom Calvano of Custom Care Solutions (who is also a Mrs. California International sponsor) brought ice cold water, and Pam Bieri of the Alzheimer’s Association brought her camera and took loads of photos to submit to the media outlets.

Before it got to be a scorcher of a day (which happens every day in the desert!), we began hiking up the trail.  What was really awesome was the fact that not only did we hike up the trail together, but we were a swarm of purple, and most hikers stopped and asked us what cause we were walking for.  To me, this was the greatest impact that we could have had!  We were able to explain the importance of Alzheimer’s research and fundraising, as well as becoming an advocate for the cause.  It always amazes me that most every person that I meet and we start talking about Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, he or she has also been impacted, either a caregiver or loved one with the disease, by this illness.

We made it!  Team Fit for Brains at the top of the Bump & Grind!
Happy to be at the top!!
I cannot wait until the words “Alzheimer’s” and “dementia” are just words in a history book.  Imagine a world without Alzheimer’s!
